A 35-year-old man has been arrested in Berkeley, Northern California, after allegedly hiding a micro-camera in his shoe to secretly film the skirts of women and teenage girls. Berkeley hidden camera arrest cases have sparked concern as police urge potential additional victims to come forward.
Discovery at a Local Bagel Shop
According to the Berkeley Police Department, the suspect, identified as 35-year-old Oakland resident Noah Stein, was arrested on October 30. The investigation began when a teenage girl noticed a suspicious camera while standing in line at a Rocks, Stock & Bagel shop near the UC Berkeley campus on October 26.
Police stated that the victim accidentally stepped on the man’s foot, looked down, and discovered that a camera concealed inside his shoe was pointing directly underneath her skirt.
Investigation and Additional Suspected Sites
Investigators tracked the suspect using store evidence and automated license plate recognition data. The case advanced rapidly on the night of October 29 when a citizen reported seeing a man with a camera on his shoe filming women’s skirts near Durant Avenue.
Officers detained Stein at the scene and recovered a discarded small camera from a nearby trash can. A subsequent search of his Oakland home led to the seizure of multiple electronic devices.
Authorities believe Stein also installed a separate fixed camera inside a Taco Bell Cantina on Durant Avenue on the night of October 29. He faces multiple charges, including invasion of privacy using a concealed recording device, annoying or molesting a minor, and destruction of evidence.
Call for Additional Victims
Police confirmed that Stein was seen frequently visiting the South Campus area of Berkeley in the weeks leading up to his arrest. Authorities are actively seeking tips from additional victims.
Anyone who was at the Taco Bell after 11 p.m. on October 29 or suspects they were secretly filmed is encouraged to contact the Berkeley Police Department’s Special Victims Unit.
