Major Ford Recall Affects Nearly 159,000 Vehicles
A new Ford recall has been issued for approximately 159,000 vehicles due to a dangerous defect that can cause a complete loss of driving power while on the road. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the massive safety action involves two separate mechanical defects affecting a total of 158,664 vehicles.
Wiring Harness and Engine Piston Issues
The first part of the recall impacts 148,663 Ford Mustang vehicles from the 2024 through 2026 model years. Investigators found that the ground terminal of the engine compartment wiring harness can fracture due to vehicle vibrations, leading to an immediate loss of engine power. Ford dealers will replace the ground terminal with an improved component free of charge.
The second recall covers 10,001 vehicles from the 2026 model year, including the Bronco, Bronco Sports, Explorer, Ranger, and Mustang equipped with 2.3-liter EcoBoost engines. A loose nut on the piston manufacturer’s machining equipment can cause cracks in the piston joint. Symptoms include illuminated check engine lights, starting issues, and abnormal engine noise. Dealers will inspect the pistons and replace the engine long block with a new part for free if cracks are found.
