Hyundai Paint Warranty Draws Backlash Over Color Limits

Hyundai Paint Warranty coverage is facing renewed criticism from vehicle owners over restrictions based on model and paint color.

Atlanta-based television station WSB-TV reported on Sept. 16 that Hyundai owners have continued to report cases of peeling paint.

The dispute centers on the automakerโ€™s decision to limit its extended paint warranty to certain models and colors, prompting complaints from owners whose vehicles do not qualify.

Hyundai faced similar controversy over paint defects in July 2025. At the time, the automaker announced expanded warranty coverage for select model years of seven vehicles affected by peeling and bubbling paint. The Korea Daily previously reported on the issue in its July 14, 2025, edition.

Under the expanded Hyundai Paint Warranty, coverage increased from three years or 36,000 miles to 10 years with no mileage limit.

However, eligibility was restricted to vehicles with white or white pearl paint.

Pamela Carlton, who owns a blue 2019 Hyundai Elantra, told WSB-TV that she could not understand why Hyundai would refuse to cover paint repairs simply because her vehicle was a different color.

According to WSB-TV, Hyundai said in a statement that owners experiencing paint problems should have their vehicles inspected by a local dealership or contact Hyundai customer service, even if their vehicles are not covered by the extended warranty.

Some owners, however, say Hyundai declined to cover their repainting costs even after their vehicles were inspected.
