An open forum seeking common ground for Korean Peninsula peace and inter-Korean relations is set to take place.
The Los Angeles chapter of the National Unification Advisory Council will host the ‘LA Social Dialogue for Peace and Unification’ on the 21st at 5:30 PM at the Oxford Palace Hotel.
Under the theme ‘Different Thoughts, One Future,’ the event will bring together around 150 participants spanning generations and ideological spectrums, including Korean community organization representatives, council members, and high school students. Attendees will engage in integrated progressive-conservative discussions across 15 roundtables.
Discussion agendas focus on four practical current issues: the future of the National Security Act, the future of U.S. Forces Korea and the ROK-U.S. alliance, North Korea’s official designation and mutual respect, and the conditions and methods for inter-Korean dialogue. Progressive and conservative speakers will present their views on each agenda item, followed by in-depth roundtable discussions.
So Byung-sun, Senior Executive Vice President of the LA chapter, stated, “This is a dialogue method being introduced to the Korean community for the first time. Our core goal is to transcend progressivism and conservatism, discover common tasks, and derive joint follow-up projects.”
Jang Seok-min, Vice Chairman of External Cooperation, emphasized, “If conservatives and progressives respect each other’s opinions instead of engaging in ideological confrontation, we can gather our intentions. Since both sides share the basic idea that our homeland and unification are important, finding points of convergence to work together holds great significance.”
