How K-Beauty Conquered Downtown New York

The global phenomenon of K-Beauty took center stage in downtown Brooklyn, New York, where the ‘Haus of K: Seoul Beauty Lounge Season 1’ exhibition drew massive crowds from June 13 to August 31. Spanning a 300-pyeong space at Hana House, the showcase featured around 20 emerging South Korean beauty brands and roughly 700 products from 100 different brands, alongside lifestyle experiences like traditional Korean food and hanbok. On peak days, nearly 1,000 visitors flooded the venue, accumulating a total of around 10,000 visitors over three months. Unlike typical retail pop-ups, the event served as a high-powered networking hub where indie South Korean brands met US retail buyers, industry insiders, and content creators.

The Secret Behind the Global Creator Network

The mastermind behind the exhibition is Ahram Baek, co-founder of the K-beauty brand Dear Klairs, who established the global marketing platform Nurihouse in 2020. Described by Baek as a ‘creator employment agency,’ Nurihouse collaborates with a massive community of content creators rather than operating like a traditional Multi-Channel Network (MCN). Through the Nurilounge app, the platform connects over 3 million global creators across 150 countries with South Korean brands on a project-by-project basis. This strategic approach allowed fresh indie brands like Seethru to secure massive wins, including a $380,000 USD (500 million KRW) purchase order from a US buyer and vital investor connections after joining the New York showcase.

The Future of South Korea’s Beauty Export Phenomenon

Looking ahead to Season 2 of Haus of K, which runs through November, Nurihouse is shifting to an ‘edit’ format that changes themes every two to three weeksβ€”ranging from viral creator weeks to targeted meetings with US micro-distributors, wellness categories, and venture capitalists. Baek notes that K-beauty is no longer viewed merely as a national product, but as a standalone global genre supported by South Korea’s robust manufacturing infrastructure. With plans to expand these well-made showcases to other dense global metropolises much like a Broadway tour, the ecosystem aims to secure long-term sustainability and strategic global influence for the entire South Korean beauty industry.
