Group Mamamoo Wheein recently drew attention by shedding tears while reminiscing about her glamorous peak era as an idol, though public reactions have been less than sympathetic.
Wheein recently hosted a live broadcast through the fan communication platform Weverse. Known for being emotional, she confessed that she often experiences a sudden surge of deep feelings while on world tour.
She shared, I get extremely emotional during tours and my mind races. These are things I never could have imagined back in my early-to-mid twenties. I find myself wishing often that I could return to the period when Mamamoo was actively promoting at our peak.
She continued, Honestly, there were times back then when I truly hated it because it was so exhausting. People need periods of rest to appreciate the small, precious things in between, but when you are constantly being rushed forward, you often miss out on recognizing what you are gaining on your own. It was a confession that the moments she failed to look back on during her non-stop promotional schedules have now turned into deep longing over time.
She did not hide her complex feelings regarding her peak era. Wheein expressed, There was no breathing room. Looking back now, it was exhausting yet fun. I think I miss it—those active promotional days. Sometimes I wonder if I could push myself to work that hard again if I had to go back.
She also shared that she often watches old Mamamoo videos while drinking alone at home. Wheein confessed with tears, I put on old Mamamoo videos when I drink alone. I suppose that is my drinking habit. I end up watching them and crying by myself. Her sincere remarks brought a sense of touching emotion, revealing that the once-overwhelming stages and schedules have now transformed into precious memories she wishes to revisit.
Wheein also recalled advice she received in the past from broadcaster Kim Shin-young. Sharing that she once told Kim Shin-young out of exhaustion, I want to quit, she revealed that Kim Shin-young replied, Even if you want to quit now, a day will definitely come when you miss those times.
Wheein admitted, Frankly, I didn’t understand it back then. She told me I would inevitably miss it. I realize the truth in those words so much these days.
However, following Wheein’s emotional confession, netizens’ reactions have been notably cold. Comments included, You chose not to renew your contract alone, so why are you reminiscing about it now?, It is hard to relate, and It doesn’t feel genuine.
Mamamoo is a four-member group consisting of Solar, Moonbyul, Wheein, and Hwasa, who debuted in 2014 and received immense love for their solid vocal prowess and distinct musical style. They built a unique team identity by releasing numerous hit songs such as Um Oh Ah Yeh, You’re the Best, Decalcomanie, and Starry Night, gaining massive popularity for their overwhelming live performance skills on stage.
However, there have been changes in the members’ agency contracts. Wheein left her original agency after her contract expired in 2021, and Hwasa also moved to P Nation in 2023 without renewing her contract with her previous agency. Since then, the members have continued pursuing individual activities in their respective fields.
Amidst these changes, Mamamoo is once again connecting with fans through their MAMAMOO 2026 WORLD TOUR 4WARD. They held their Tokyo concert on the 25th and are scheduled to bring the grand finale of their tour to Taipei on November 28 and 29.
