Newly obtained audio recordings have confirmed that North Korean troops deployed to Russia transmitted a New Yearβs message from leader Kim Jong-un over military communications.
According to a report by Channel A on February 22, the intercepted message matches the contents of a letter discovered last month on the body of a North Korean soldier killed in action in the Kursk region.
βComrades who have experienced countless battles and the profound emotions of true camaraderie and patriotism remain faithful even in a land far from homeβ¦β the message, reportedly from Kim Jong-un, was transmitted through the voice of a North Korean soldier.
Another intercepted communication contained words of encouragement, purportedly from Kim.
βI do not know how to express my gratitude and encouragement for the dedication and hardships you endure amid relentless battles.β
Recordings Reveal Chaotic Battlefield Conditions and North Korean Retreat
Reports indicate that North Korean forces began withdrawing from frontline positions in late January. Additional transmissions capture frantic battlefield updates, suggesting that the troops were under severe pressure.
βEnemy forces have increased by 100 at the entrance of Dmitri, and 50 more near Komarkovβs 1st Company Commander. Our battalion is surrounded.β
Other recordings highlight confusion among North Korean soldiers as they struggle to coordinate their response.
Analysts suggest that the North Korean troops were facing dire circumstances on the battlefield.
North Korean Forces Lacking Russian Artillery and Drone Support
βNorth Korean forces appear to be fighting in small-scale skirmishes without access to Russiaβs rear artillery support or drone assistance,β Rep. Yoo Yong-won of South Koreaβs conservative People Power Party said.
Despite setbacks, Ukrainian military sources report that North Korean units have since adjusted their tactics to smaller-scale attacks and are re-entering the battlefield.
