A school axe attack shocked an international school in Malaysia after a 16-year-old male student broke into a classroom, assaulted a teacher with a weapon, and broadcast the entire terrifying incident live on social media.
Classroom Chaos and Heroic Intervention
According to local media outlets such as The Star on October 22 (local time), the incident unfolded around 7:50 a.m. the previous day at an international school in Kuching, Sarawak. The teenage perpetrator entered through the front door of an active classroom wielding an axe, immediately attacking a female teacher before stepping outside.
He then re-entered through the back door, swinging the weapon indiscriminately at fleeing students. As students scrambled to evacuate, the injured teacher bravely tried to block the attacker barehanded. Two other students quickly stepped in, tackling and pinning the assailant while school staff rushed to disarm him, ending the crisis.
The teacher sustained hand injuries, though they were confirmed not to be life-threatening. Fortunately, none of the students were physically harmed during the ordeal.
Bizarre Livestream and Police Response
Investigations revealed that the suspect used his mobile phone to livestream the horrific crime on social media. Footage showed him securing his phone to his head with a strap, retrieving an axe and a lighter from his bag in the school restroom, and documenting his walk to the classroom right up to the moment of the attack.
Local police arrived at the scene and arrested the suspect at approximately 8:03 a.m. The precise motive behind the violent rampage remains under investigation.
In response to the security breach, the school immediately sent students home early and significantly ramped up safety measures. Authorities announced plans to deploy three auxiliary police officers on campus and implement strict security screening for all visitors.
