Son Ye-jin Scandal: A 24-Year Historical K-Drama Return

Son Ye-jin Scandal marks the celebrated actress’s dramatic return to the historical genre after 24 years, starring in the upcoming Netflix series. On September 9, 2026, a production presentation for the Netflix series Scandal was held at the JW Marriott Dongdaemun Square in Seoul, South Korea. Director Jung Ji-woo, along with lead cast members Son Ye-jin, Ji Chang-wook, and Nana, attended the event to share insights about the highly anticipated project.

The Plot and Characters of Netflix’s Scandal

The series Scandal follows Lady Cho (played by Son Ye-jin), a woman blessed with exceptional talents but constrained by the limitations placed on women during the Joseon dynasty. She proposes a dangerous and daring love game to Jo Won (played by Ji Chang-wook), the ultimate romanticist of Joseon. Their high-stakes wager soon entangles a grieving young widow named Hui-yeon (played by Nana). Son Ye-jin’s character uses her childhood friend and cousin Jo Won to shake up the established order through an illicit wager.

Why Son Ye-jin Chose This Role

Reflecting on her career milestone, Son Ye-jin shared why she chose the project. She expressed her long-standing desire to work with Director Jung Ji-woo and her curiosity about how the classic story would be adapted into a series. ‘I felt I am now at an age where I can properly express such complex emotions,’ Son Ye-jin explained, highlighting the exploration of human desires within the Joseon dynasty background and her excitement for her first historical role in over two decades. Director Jung Ji-woo also praised the actress, comparing her ability to carry the entire narrative to that of a superhero. Netflix will release Scandal worldwide on September 18, 2026.
