Actor Squid Game 3 star Lee Jung-jae recently shared his honest thoughts and reactions to the shocking series finale during a special Netflix anniversary event.
On October 24, the ‘Netflix Korea 10th Anniversary’ event was held at the Sangam Culture Viticultural Center. The celebration featured key figures behind Netflix Korea’s biggest hits, looking back on the past decade of groundbreaking content. Among the highlights, lead cast members Lee Jung-jae, Lee Byung-hun, and Park Hae-soo took the stage to reminisce about their time on the mega-hit series.
Lee Jung-jae’s Honest Reaction to the Finale
During the event, the cast reviewed iconic scenes and shared behind-the-scenes stories. The discussion naturally turned to the highly anticipated and much-talked-about ending of Squid Game 3, drawing intense curiosity from the audience.
When MC Kim Shin-young asked Lee Jung-jae about his initial reaction to the shocking conclusion, the actor admitted he had mixed feelings as both a performer and a viewer. As the protagonist Seong Gi-hun who lived through the harrowing events, Lee noted that the ending delivered an incredibly powerful message. However, from a viewer’s perspective, he found it hard to accept that such a successful series was truly coming to a permanent close without pushing into a fourth or fifth season.
Praising Director Hwang Dong-hyuk’s Bold Decision
Reflecting further, Lee explained that the uncompromising choices made by the production team ultimately served to heighten anticipation for the final chapters. He expressed deep admiration for creator and director Hwang Dong-hyuk, praising his bold determination to draw a definitive, impactful period at the very end of the narrative.
MC Kim Shin-young agreed with the sentiment, commending the creative team for showing remarkable courage in leaving behind a timeless and impactful masterpiece rather than unnecessarily dragging out the story.
