Teslaโs new Hollywood diner, which opened in late July as a high-profile combination of EV charging station and restaurant, is facing criticism just two weeks after launch over tesla diner menu cuts and scaled-back operations.
Menu Cuts After Opening
According to Eater LA, the dinerโs original offerings included biscuits and gravy, cinnamon rolls, soft-serve ice cream, burgers, waffles, and breakfast sandwiches. As of August 5, orders through Teslaโs in-car infotainment system were limited to five sandwiches, two sides, two pies, milkshakes, and a few soft drinks.
Bacon is no longer available as a standalone item, and the vegetarian burger patty option has been removed. Waffles, originally promoted as an โall-day breakfastโ item, are now available only in the morning.
Quality and Features Under Fire
Food reviews have been lukewarm. Critics described the chicken tenders as โokay,โ said hot dogs had โshrunk by the time they were eaten,โ and noted burgers โleft no special impression.โ
Executive chef Eric Greenspan said the menu โwill continue to evolveโ and that unexpected demand led to simplification for efficiency. Some items may return periodically as specials, he added.
Other features have also disappointed visitors. The geofencing systemโdesigned to start cooking when a customer comes within 15 minutes of the dinerโwas not functioning as of August 5. The humanoid robot Optimus, once used for popcorn service as a promotional draw, was also absent.
Reduced Hours and Ongoing Complaints
Despite its โ24-hourโ branding, the diner currently operates from 6 a.m. to midnight.
Beyond food and service issues, the opening has stirred local controversy. On its first weekend, nearby residents complained about a large screen blocking views. In a separate incident, a fallen patio umbrella struck a female customer on the head and narrowly missed hitting a toddler.
