A 19-year-old Korean teenager was killed in a Texas motorcycle crash involving a four-vehicle collision at an intersection controlled by a stop sign.

According to local Texas media outlet ‘MyRGV’ on the 3rd, the accident occurred at around 7:43 AM that day at the intersection of 10th Street and Chapin Street near North Edinburg. Dong-jun Kim (19), who was riding the motorcycle, was transported to the hospital immediately after the accident but ultimately succumbed to his injuries.

At the time of the accident, Kim was wearing safety gear including a helmet, protective jacket, and gloves.

According to preliminary findings by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), Kim was traveling north on 10th Street on his motorcycle. Meanwhile, the driver of a Ford Escape SUV heading east on Chapin Street came to a stop at the stop sign and entered the intersection, colliding with Kim’s motorcycle.

The impact of the collision caused the Ford vehicle to careen forward and strike a GMC Canyon pickup truck that was waiting to make a left turn from the opposite direction. The GMC vehicle then suffered a secondary collision with a Cadillac SUV parked behind it.

Two adults and two children riding in the Ford and GMC vehicles were also injured and transported to the hospital. Their injuries were reported to not be life-threatening, and the driver of the Cadillac was uninjured.

DPS is investigating the exact circumstances, believing that the driver of the Ford vehicle caused the accident by failing to yield the right-of-way at the intersection.
