No Ticket Needed: The New TSA PreCheck Gateside Pass Unlocks Airport Gates
If you’ve ever wished you could walk your teary-eyed best friend all the way to their departure gate or grab a legendary airport dining spot without buying a plane ticket, your travel dreams just came true. The Transportation Security Administration has officially launched a game-changing program that lets non-flyers pass through security checkpoints using a TSA PreCheck Gateside Pass. For the first time since strict post-9/11 rules went into effect, ticketless visitors can hang out in airport terminals, meet loved ones during long layovers, or simply indulge in some high-end gate-side shopping.

How the Gateside Program Works (And Who Qualifies)
Unlocking terminal access isn’t a free-for-allβthere are a few ground rules to keep security tight. To snag a TSA PreCheck Gateside Pass, you must be an active TSA PreCheck member holding a valid Known Traveler Number (KTN).
Here is what the application process looks like:
-
Apply Early: Head online between 1 to 3 days before your intended visit to submit your request. Passes are completely free.
-
Bring Proper ID: Once approved, walk up to the TSA PreCheck security lane with your digital pass approval and standard government ID.
-
Missing ID? If you forget acceptable ID, TSA offers an identity verification service called TSA ConfirmID for a $45 fee.
-
Bring the Kids: Children can join in on the fun, provided they are explicitly included on an eligible parent or guardianβs application.
Where Can You Use It?
The TSA is currently rolling out the initiative across 13 participating hubs nationwide, including heavy hitters like Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), Dallas Fort Worth (DFW), Harry Reid International in Las Vegas (LAS), and San Diego International (SAN). Smaller regional spots like Detroit (DTW), Salt Lake City (SLC), and Indianapolis (IND) are also on the list. If the pilot goes smoothly, expect to see the TSA PreCheck Gateside Pass expand to dozens more terminals soon.
Whether you’re planning an epic tear-jerking gate greeting or just want to grab gourmet food without boarding a plane, airport access is officially open for business. Check your PreCheck status, apply a couple of days in advance, and enjoy the terminal breezeβno seat belt required!
