Discover the delicate beauty of egg art exhibition as artist Theresa Hwang unveils her 16th solo exhibition titled ‘Treasure Within’ at the Lee & Lee Gallery, directed by Agnes Lee, running from next month’s 4th to the 24th.
Intricate Works on Natural Shells
Following her 2022 solo exhibition, this upcoming event will showcase between 80 and 100 works utilizing various bird eggs. Visitors can experience Hwang’s long-standing dedication to egg art and her unique perspective on life and nature.
The primary materials range from sparrow, quail, duck, chicken, and swan eggs to goose, ostrich, and rhea eggs. Each piece highlights the distinct sizes, curves, and surface textures of the shells, meticulously decorated with Swarovski crystals, rhinestones, beads, acrylic paints, and velvet.
Reflection on Life and Inner Self
At the core of the artwork is a deep contemplation of life and the inner self. Hwang views the egg as a world harboring life itself, incorporating the philosophy that just as a bird breaks free from its shell, achieving new birth requires shedding one’s existing world.
"Egg art goes beyond creating beautiful pieces; it is about discovering the value of life inherent in nature and infusing it with one’s heart and soul," Hwang explained. "The process of trimming and decorating ostrich eggs is a time for self-reflection, allowing me to look inward while adding care to the sturdy shell."
The opening reception will take place on the 4th of next month from 3 PM to 6 PM.
