Fullerton Mayor Fullerton Mayor Fred Jung has publicly revealed the recurrence of his cancer. After recovering from a battle with cancer two years ago, Mayor Jung announced through an official statement on the 30th that the returned cancer is lung cancer, which has progressed to stage 3 and is in a very serious and significantly worsened condition.

He stated that he plans to receive active treatment and expressed his gratitude to the medical staff and the Korean American community who helped him overcome the illness when he was first diagnosed two years ago.

Mayor Jung vowed to continue performing his duties as mayor with even greater pride and passion for the City of Fullerton and the Orange County Korean American community.

In his statement, Mayor Jung shared, “I was deeply grateful for the tremendous support and prayers sent by the Korean American community two years ago, and I felt a profound sense of humility.” He added, “There are good days and very tough days during the lung cancer treatment process. Even on difficult days, I will remain focused on working hard for the Korean American community and the City of Fullerton. I will continue to fight to overcome cancer once again. I ask for your prayers.”

Mayor Jung previously disclosed in June 2024 that he had been fighting cancer for several months. Having received a stage 3 cancer diagnosis and undergone treatment at that time, Mayor Jung succeeded in his re-election as a city council member in November of that year and has since been actively engaged in city governance.
